For many of us in business, we measure our success by the amount of money we make.
Money is only ONE measure of success, but it is not the entire picture.
Over the past several years, I have been following and learning from some well-known entrepreneurs. Some are 6-figure and 7-figure business owners. And, while I’ve learned some techniques and gained some knowledge, something was not clicking for me.
That should have been my first clue!
At first I thought it was just me.
I dismissed it by repeating to myself what I was told, “Follow the model of those who succeed.”
I do agree it is important to follow those who emulate the success you desire to have.
Instead of listening to my instincts, though, I opted for the “just work harder” route, which lead to challenging situations, complete frustration and less than ideal results.
Here’s what I know – and was gently reminded about recently;
If you pay attention to only the financial success, you are missing a huge chunk of the pie. You will not have any satisfaction with your results, even if the money begins to increase.
You know that financial success does not equal life success. However, the idea of making more money can be so seductive.
Over the past couple months, I have been hearing more and more about some of the top “gurus” that I have followed over the years having financial and legal challenges, lack integrity in their business decisions and have programs that have been falling apart.
What was interesting to me was I was not surprised.
A feeling in my gut knew something wasn’t right, but I couldn’t put my finger on it right away.
A couple of weeks ago, a business buddy of mine shared about yet another individual who was having a bout with trouble.
During our conversation, it hit me!
The individuals whose facades were cracking and images crumbling were those who were seeking the financial success while sacrificing overall life success.
It was then that I realized what my instinct was telling me.
My life is based on being true to myself and to others.
I will not sacrifice my integrity to make money or get ahead. I have to live with myself and I prefer to be someone I can trust.
Even when we don’t know what is going on completely, if we follow our gut instinct, we will never be lead astray. Learn to trust your gut!
That is where I get my Divine Guidance and it has NEVER steered me wrong.
It is only when I choose to ignore or rationalize it that I get tripped up!
It is NOT about working harder. It is about being present, listening to your gut and trusting and following your heart.
Yes, look for individuals to learn from and gain knowledge, but don’t judge their success solely on the money.
Make sure they have LIFE success and live their life with integrity, compassion and love, as well.
Warmly,
